>> good morning, it is 7:00 a.m., sunday, september 28. suspicious fire two people are hospitalized dozens more out of the their homes after a fire at a philadelphia apartment complex overnight. >> an 8-year-old girl is badly hurt after her family's dog viciously attacks her. >> the eagles gear up and tackle the 49ers and protect their number one status. first outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers and another beautiful day on tap. it is. >> reporter: we're trying to protect our number one forecast. we're talking about a lot of sunshine today and warm temperatures.

take a look at the stretch of weather we've seen. we're expecting a high of 84 degrees coming off yesterday's 84. friday we had a high of 78. even tomorrow we could be very close to 80 degrees. now, it's not too unusual to get a day or two where you're ten degrees above average. when you put a string of these together, four, five, six days in a row. that becomes increasingly difficult as the average temperature drops. it's not out of the ordinary to see something like this, but it's unusual. millville, 52. trenton, 53. dover, 57. a little bit cooler in allentown, 50 degrees. water vapor imaging shows cloud cover starting to approach the area from the southwest. it's not as bright as yesterday, we're expecting lots of sunshine and blue skies. but you will start to see a few high, thin clouds in the sky from time to time, so forecast for today, 67 degrees by 9:00.

mostly sunny skies by lunchtime 78. 3:00 p.m., 84 and even 6:00 p.m., 82 degrees, again, expecting another day with temperatures around 84 degrees. some 11 degrees above average. win streak continues tomorrow. it's another warm one, more in the way of clouds, we see wet weather tuesday into wednesday. i'll focus on that with the seven day when i step back inside in just a bit. >> chris thank you. we have a developing story from the east oak lane section of philadelphia. police are investigating a suspicious fire at an participant building. two people were injured. the action cam was at the scene, a four-story building on stenton avenue. when firefighters arrived they found several residents trapped on their balconies. fire and smoke cut off the stairways they tried to use to escape. someone set fires in the hallways on the first and third floors. >> reports by the fire marshal

indicates there's a strong odor of gasoline, two separate fires one on the first floor and one on the third floor. that indicates they are suspicious in nature. >> so far no arrests. a 61-year-old woman is being treated for smoke at einstein medical center. 56-year-old man is being treated for smoke and burns at temple university hospital. their injuries are not considered life threatening. meanwhile, peco has cut off power to the buildings leaving 75 people out of the unit. all residents have found temporary shelters on their own. most will return to their apartments sometime this morning. >> a young girl is hospitalized in critical condition after being attacked by the family dog. her injuries were so severe she was rushed from a. i. dupont in wilmington to children's hospital. >> reporter: this 8-year-old girl has lost a lot of blood and has a number of soft tissue

injuries to her arm. she was flown to chop to see a specialist to save the arm. at the city council home, there are signs warning outsiders, but the police say the dog turned on the 8-year-old daughter. >> she loves animals, my heart goes out to the family. >> reporter: police and paramedics and animal control pushed to the home around 1:00 p.m. where the pitbull viciously bit the child all over her body in the basement and caused number of injuries to her arm. it was the 15-year-old sister who had to beat the dog off the girl and put pressure on severely bleeding wounds. >> that's hero i can and put yourself in -- his or his or het yourself in harm's way. the dog blocked the girls' way out. but when the police came they killed the pitbull.

the wife's ex-husband said his daughter was in the house at the time of the attack. she also -- she is safe. >> it was an american pitbull. >> reporter: the neighbor is friend with the 8-year-old victim the mother worried for the safety of all the children. >> they assured me that the dog was locked separately and they would have no contact with the dog. >> my heart goes out and we prayers and i pray the best for everybody. i hope the injuries are not as severe as it might be. >> reporter: the victim is in critical condition at chop. newark police say the pitbull attack is under investigation. reporting in university city. kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> there's more tension in ferguson, missouri this morning after a police officer was shot. the officer was hit in the arm by two suspects following a foot chase. an intense search is underway

are to the suspects. other circumstances of the shooting are being investigated. ferguson has been the scene of unrest since the august 9th shooting of michael brown an unarmed black 18-year-old by a white police officer. the search for a man accused of killing a pennsylvania state trooper is entering it's 3rd week. hundreds comb through the thick woods near his parents home in the poconos. frein is charged with killing corporal bryon dickson on september 12 in an ambush. "good morning america" spoke with frein's sister in law. >> any idea why his brother shot at the police officers. >> we have no ideas. >> how is michael doing? >> he is in shock.

>> reporter: a 175,000-dollar reward is being offered for information leading to his capture. >> police in wilmington, delaware are investigating a shooting that left a man fighting for his life. it happened outside a rite aid at 4th and adams street at 1:15. police say an a man was shot several times. he was rushed to christiana hospital in critical condition. police have made no arrests and have no motives for the shooting. wilmington police are investigating a shooting on the 8800 block of vanerborn avenue. three people were arrested in connection with the shooting. >> dop the violence -- stop the violence. give us peace. >> more than a dozen churches and community groups carried t-shirts that represented victims. murder over the past two years.

demonstrators pointed out 42 people have been murdered in wilmington since 2012. the marchers represented people impacted by gun violence and chris kunes. >> this is for folks all over new castle county to come out and spread a message of peace to make it clear to the people of wilmington that we care and engaged and witnessing peace on the streets of wilmington. >> the one mile peace march interestedded with a rally. >> women' rights champion gloria stein ham will be honored with a chair. the goal torched ways to include -- to find ways torched more diverse voices in the media. philadelphia celebrates latin american culture today with the 51st puerto rican

initially 250 people were trapped on the slopes, but most made their way back down last night. a van had a an unfortunate fate in denver, colorado. a sinkhole opened up saturday of a water main break. nobody was inside the van at the time, crews pulled the van out of the hole to start repairs. >> lucky stretch of weather we have here. >> reporter: there's the view we're looking at a camden waterfront. you can see a few high, thin wispy cirrus clouds overnight. 61 degrees, dewpoint, 56.

the gulf coast states, there's a cold front approaching the u.s./canadian border. both will attempt to move toward the delaware valley. now it looks like this cold front will be a little bit stronger than the actual low and it will kick the low farther out to sea. meaning we'll miss out on appreciable rains. we'll see showers, but we're not looking at a soaking driving rain had that low come up the coast. the cold front brings showers north and west, otherwise it's a nice dry, stretch of weather. close up shows scattered showers well north and west, late in the day on tuesday, today is beautiful, mostly sunny in the lehigh valley, you'll seal the high, thin -- you'll see the high, thin cirrus clouds. jersey shore, winds out of the southeast 5 to 10 miles per hour. that will keep temperatures 77 degrees on the sand.

an apartment complex sends two toll hospital and leaves dozens out of their home. philadelphia police look for a gunman after a man is shot three times and left for dead. >> we're looking at a another summer-like day as we close out the first full weekend of fall. >> 7:30, chris sowers is outside, hi, chris. >> reporter: hey, nydia it's beautiful out here, lots of sunshine, temple in the 50s and 60s and no humidity. take a look at yesterday's temperatures, northeast philadelphia yesterday, 85 degrees. that is normal for the middle of august. allentown, 84. trenton, 84. glassboro, 83 and dover topping out at 80. right now it's a little chilly in some of the outlying areas, allentown, 50 degrees, 48 in the poconos. 52 in millville. philadelphia, 61. boardwalk in atlantic city, a little milder, temperature of

62. satellite and radar shows a few high, thin clouds across the delaware valley. thicker clouds approaching from the west. today will be a bright and sunny day, but tomorrow things change up a little bit. that's the call from accuweather this afternoon, expect to see more in the way of high clouds during the afternoon. a warm one with a high of 84. a couple of locations i could see as warm as 85 degrees. as you mentioned it feels like summer out here for the first full weekend of fall. the conditions will change later this week. we have a cold front approaching from canada that will lower the temperatures quite a bit it will bring the chance of clouds and showers, i'll have the details in the forecast, nydia, when i step back inside in just a bit. >> here's more on the developing story out of the east oak lane section of philadelphia. a suspicious apartment building fire has injured two people and left 75 others on the street. the blaze broke out at 2:30 on the 7400 block of stenton avenue. firefighters had to rescue

several people who were trapped on the balconies of the 4 story building. the injuries were treated for -- the injured were treated for smoke and burns. their injuries are not life threatening. investigators say it looked like someone poured gasoline on the first and third floor hallways and lit it. no arrests so far. >> the 8-year-old daughter of a newark delaware city council remains in critical after being attacked by the family pitbull. the animal altacked the girl -- attacked the girl in the basement of the family home. the 15-year-old sister beat the dog to get it off the girl put pressure on the girl's wounds. the teen called 911 while protecting her sister which was

blocking the door. surgeons operated on the girl in an effort to try to save his arm. there's no word on where the councilman and his wife were at the time of the attack. >> a man is in surgery after getting shot several times on the philadelphia street. the action cam was in the logan section of the city. gunfire wrack out after mid -- rang out after midnight. the victim was shot three times, including once in the chest. police have not indicated whether they found any motives or suspects. a deadly accident involving a septa bus remains under investigation. the bus was making a left turn from 15th to washington avenue in south philadelphia on friday night when it hit a woman and her young son who were crossing the street. the 29-year-old mother died at the scene. the 7-year-old was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. >> charges have been filed in the hit-and-run death of a 73-year-old man in east mount

airy friday night. the man had just picked up his 13-year-old grandson from football practice. they were driving through the intersection when their vehicle was hit by an suv. the driver and passenger of the suv jumped out and fled the scene. they were caught a short time later. the 73-year-old man was pronounced at the scene. the 1-year-old was transferred to children's -- 13-year-old was transferred to children's hospital and is expected to be okay. two people were killed when two small planes collided in midair. it happened at an event designed to introduce children to aviation. the plane was flying as part of the young eagles rally near buffalo. the crash killed the 78-year-old pilot and 14-year-old passengerment other plane landed in the field, the pilot of that plane who was a 9-year-old girl walked away. a vigil was held in for the worth texas for one of the victims of the deadly bus crash.

to wait a few more weeks. here's a look at the map, they will be peaking next week in the white and green mountains, the alleghenies, back here in the delaware valley we don't usually see our peak in terms of fall foliage until late october, perhaps the first week of november. with that said we're seeing color out there right now, we won't see a ton of color for the another few weeks. this is one of our facebook viewers janice, one of the maples has turned orange in front of the tall sea grass. we are seeing color, but we have to wait a few weeks before we see a ton of it. looks like this will be a brilliant fall foliage season. we are expecting quite a bit of color over the next couple of months. 61 degrees, dewpoint, 56. winds out of the north at 3 miles per hour. pressure reading 30.18 inches.

it's another beautiful morning out in the delaware and lehigh valleys. slatington 58. quakertown, 50 degrees. agenda beach, 52. of glassboro, 54. buena, 52 degrees. as we look at the satellite and radar composite we actually have two areas of cloud cover, first this right here which is pushing over the delaware valley as i speak. these are high, thin clouds. this out here, past the ohio and tennessee valleys this is thicker cloud cover, that will sweep in on monday. that is what we're looking at right now. mostly sunny conditions, a few high, thin clouds overspreading the area. we'll go live on sky 6. i can show you these high, thin clouds making for a nice morning around the delaware valley just a little bit of cloud cover, i'm assuming? we'll go a little farther to the southwest and here's what we're looking at a couple of systems

south and west of the delaware valley. the first one coming in out of the gulf coast states. the second one is a cold front approaching from the northwest just now crossing the u.s./canadian border. looks like the latest forecast information suggests that the cold front will be stronger than the area of low pressure that will be developing to the south. this cold front will knock the low farther sought to sea. therefore we're expecting more in the way of clouds tomorrow, but nothing more than showers as we get into tuesday afternoon. we'll steer clear of a soaking driving rain. that's good news there. knows li sunny skies -- mostly sunny skies, that's good news there, warm, 84 degrees. lunchtime, 78 degrees, 3:00 p.m., that's when we're peaking 84. 6:00 p.m., 82 degrees, overnight tonight there could patchy fog developing after midnight with lows dropping down into the 50s and 60s. beach, beautiful today, mostly sunny skies, arm warm -- warm,
